EverTrade selects Clear, Purge, or Destroy workflows according to media type, project requirements, and NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 guidance.
Data Destruction Methods
Software Sanitization (Clear or Purge)
Logical sanitization for compatible, functioning media, with verification records available based on project scope.
Degaussing (NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 Purge)
Electromagnetic degaussing destroys all magnetic data. Renders magnetic drives unreadable. Appropriate for HIPAA, SOX, and similar requirements.
Physical Destruction (NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 Destroy)
Physical destruction for approved end-of-life HDDs, SSDs, and other data-bearing media. Serial numbers can be recorded when included in the project scope.
Chain of Custody
Business pickup and ITAD projects can include:
- Intake: Equipment received and matched to the project record
- Segregation: Data-bearing devices separated and secured
- Data destruction: The agreed method applied according to media type
- Documentation: Required serial numbers, method, date, and results recorded
- Certificate: A signed Certificate of Destruction issued for the job
